Sri Subhomoy Bhattacharya
The Ras Magan Music Academy was founded by Sri Subhomoy Bhattacharya, a devoted disciple of Pandit Chinmoy Lahiri, Pandit Shyamal Lahiri, and a Ganda bandh Shagird of Ustad Mohtaram Abdul Rashid Khan, the doyen of the Gwalior gharana. With a deep respect for the traditions of his gurus, Sri Subhomoy Bhattacharya established the Academy with the aim of nurturing talent and fostering a deep appreciation for Indian classical music. His vision was to create a space where students could immerse themselves in the study of this art form, guided by the wisdom and teachings of the great maestros.

Musical Training:
Subhomoy Bhattacharya began his musical journey under the guidance of Sangeetacharya Chinmoy Lahiri, receiving his initial taalim in both classical and semi-classical music. After the passing of Pandit Lahiri, Subhomoy continued his training with Pandit Shyamal Lahiri for several years. In 1995, he came under the tutelage of Padmabhushan Ustad Mohtaram Baba Abdul Rashid Khan, a legendary figure of the Gwalior Gharana. Subhomoy became a Gandabandh Shagird of Ustad Ji and devotedly served him for 20 years, up until Ustad Ji’s passing at the age of 107.
Musical Career:
Subhomoy Bhattacharya is an A-Grade Khayal singer with All India Radio and Doordarshan. He is not only proficient in Khayal but also performs a range of semi-classical forms such as Tappa, Thumri, Dadra, and Ghazal. Subhomoy has graced stages across India, performing at numerous prestigious conferences. He accompanied his Ustad as vocal support throughout the country for 17 years, with performances at notable venues including Rashtrapati Bhavan, ITC SRA, and the Salt Lake Music Conference. Additionally, Subhomoy has conducted numerous workshops and solo recitals across India for SPICMACAY. His performances in the albums “Rasan Geet” and “Rasan Piya” have been highly acclaimed by both listeners and the media.
Academic Qualifications:
Subhomoy holds a Master of Arts in English Literature and is also a graduate in Urdu Language and Literature.

Subhendu Ghosh (DOB 1973) is the Vice President of the Ras Magan Music Academy. He was born to Bhupati Ghosh and Purnima Ghosh, with his mother being an accomplished flautist. He is B.Com ( H) graduate under Calcutta University from South City College ( Heramba Chandra College ) in 1994. He is a familiar face in Kolkata’s stage performance scene, particularly in film and modern songs, Subhendu trained under Sri Dulal Krishna Bandopadhyay for several years. Since 2019, he has been receiving taalim in Hindustani classical and semi-classical music from Sri Subhomoy Bhattacharya. He is deeply dedicated to the noble mission of the academy.
Subhendu Ghosh
Dr. Pubalika Bhattacharya Maitra
(DOB 1969) was born in Chaibasa, Jharkhand, to Late Gita Maitra and Late Bimalendra Mohan Maitra. Her musical career began at age 6, performing as a playback singer with the Sweet Beat Orchestra and quickly gaining fame as a child artist across Jharkhand, Bihar, and Orissa. She started her formal training in Indian classical music during this period.
Dr. Maitra received her training in North Indian Classical Vocal Music from notable Gurus, including the late Pandit Samaresh Chaudhury from 1987, and currently from Pandit Subhomoy Bhattacharya (2022-present). She learned Rabindra Sangeet from Atreyi Basu, Kirtan and Bhajan from Anindita Gupta Chakraborty, a disciple of A.T. Kanan, and Kistania Rathin Ghosh. She earned a B.Mus. in Classical Vocal (Hons.) from Rabindra Bharati University in 1993, following a B.Sc. degree from Calcutta University in 1989.
Dr. Maitra holds Bachelor’s, Master’s, UGC NET, and Ph.D. degrees in Library and Information Science. She is currently a faculty member at the Department of Library and Information Science, University of Calcutta (2013-present), and previously taught at the University of North Bengal (2010-2013). She served as a librarian at Loreto College (1996-2010) and Aptech Computer Education (1993-1996).
Actively involved in organizing cultural programs, she has been honored for her singing talents. As the Secretary of the Ras Magan Music Academy, she is dedicated to promoting classical music and fostering a culturally enriched society.
Dipanwita Dutta has completed her 5th year in Nazrulgeeti from the Chandigarh Centre. She was a disciple of Baba Ustad Abdul Rashid Khan Sahab and is currently receiving taalim from Guru Sri Subhomoy Bhattacharya.She holds a Master of computer applications (MCA)degree.

Sanchari Choudhury
Sanchari Choudhury ( DOB December 16, 1992) is an accomplished vocalist and the Treasurer of the Ras Magan Music Academy. A disciple of Sri Subhomoy Bhattacharya, she holds an MA in Vocal Music from Rabindra Bharati University. Completed 5th year in vocal music and Najrulgeeti both from Chandigarh University.Sanchari is a national junior fellowship holder and has a sponsorship from the Ministry of Culture, Government of India. She has performed on live radio and television, collaborating with artists like Usha Uthup, Zubin, and Kunal Ganjawala. Her teaching career began in 2014 at Kidzee Montessori and later at National Gems Higher Secondary School. In 2019, she conducted a workshop for SPICMACAY and participated in Sangeet Sikhkhar Ashore by All India Radio. She is also an empanelled artist of Paschim Banga Rajya Sangeet Mela.
Pallab Naskar holds a BSc in Zoology and an MA in Instrumental Music. He has achieved Grade 5 in Western Violin from ABRSM and is currently studying Indian classical vocal music under the guidance of Guru Sri Subhomoy Bhattacharya.

Aditya Ganguli
Aditya Ganguly, a B.Tech graduate in Mechanical Engineering from Heritage Institute of Technology, has been pursuing Indian Classical Vocal Music for the past decade. Under the tutelage of his Guruji, Sri Subhomoy Bhattacharya, Aditya continues to refine his art, embracing the traditions and nuances of this musical form.
Sandip Mukherjee is a distinguished musician and scholar associated with the Ras Magan Music Academy. Born on March 28, 1988, he is 36 years old. Sandip holds a Bachelor’s degree in Arts from Calcutta University and a Master’s degree in Vocal Music from Rabindra Bharati University. Renowned for his deep understanding and expertise in Indian classical music, Sandip continues to contribute to the musical landscape through his performances and teachings.
